Knollwood Country Club Wedding — Katheryn & Tyler | Lake Forest, Illinois

There are venues that simply feel right from the moment you arrive. Knollwood Country Club in Lake Forest is one of them. Founded in 1924 and set on 240 rolling acres in one of Chicago’s most storied North Shore communities, it carries the kind of quiet elegance that doesn’t need to announce itself. When Katheryn and Tyler chose it for their wedding day, it felt like a natural continuation of a love story that had already begun here — we had photographed their engagement at Knollwood the summer before, dancing through the club’s interiors and walking its grounds as the light turned gold.
This time, they came back to get married.

Getting Ready at Knollwood Club

The Ceremony

Katheryn and Tyler are people of deep faith.  Their love story began with a quiet moment of prayer, and Tyler proposed at a cathedral in Peoria with organ music filling the air. For their wedding day, they celebrated a Traditional Latin Mass, exchanging vows with the solemnity and beauty that rite carries. It was one of those ceremonies where the room goes completely still. The Church was the beautiful St. Peter in Vollo IL.
The ceremony took place at their parish church and  their portraits and reception returned to Knollwood.

Bridal Portraits on the Grounds

The Knollwood ballroom dressed for a wedding is a different thing entirely from the daytime club. Warm chandelier light, round tables with florals spilling over the edges, the room filled with people who had traveled to be there. The welcome sign at the entrance, the cake, the head table — every detail reflected the care Katheryn and her family had put into the day.

Reception

The first dance was unhurried and genuine, These are two people who are comfortable with each other in the way that only comes from shared faith and real friendship. The rest of the evening followed: toasts, laughter, a dance floor that stayed full, and at some point in the evening a quiet moment outside by the club’s brick fireplace as the sun finished setting.

A Note on Photographing Knollwood

If you’re planning a wedding at Knollwood Country Club and researching photographers, a few things worth knowing from having shot here across multiple seasons:
The interior spaces — particularly the lounge with its dark wood and large windows — are exceptional for getting ready and detail work. Morning light comes in beautifully from the east-facing rooms.
The golf course grounds are at their best for portraits in late afternoon, roughly two hours before sunset. The fairways give you a naturally clean background at almost any focal length, and the mature tree lines provide shade and framing options throughout.
The ballroom photographs warmly under its existing chandelier lighting — no flash needed for most reception coverage. The wood floors are gorgeous for first dance frames.
The outdoor terrace and fireplace area is an underused gem for end-of-night portraits. If your timeline allows, plan 10 minutes there after the sun goes down.
Knollwood is a private club, so every wedding here is exclusive by nature. It’s a privilege to photograph in a space that isn’t open to the public, and it shows in the images.
