Every Season Is Engagement Season in Chicago

Whether you asked the big question or happily said yes, you and your partner are now engaged. Congratulations! The excitement has you feeling a romantic rush, and now it’s time to celebrate and announce the good news to all of your loved ones. Engagement photos serve as a lovely way to spend some time bonding as a newly engaged couple and will help you create the perfect announcement.

Fall

Fall is the most requested: golden trees in Lincoln Park, warm light, comfortable temperatures. Book early — October weekends fill first.

Winter

is the sleeper hit. Snow turns the lakefront into a monochrome film set, holiday lights dress up the Loop, and Union Station gives us a warm, dramatic indoor backup. Some of our favorite sessions ever happened below freezing.

Spring

brings blossoms to the parks and moody skies over the lake. It’s also the least crowded season at the big landmarks.

Summer means golden-hour sessions at the lakefront — the hour before sunset with the skyline glowing behind you — plus sparklers, colored smoke, and beach sessions that run into blue hour. For those who are newly engaged, or just new to a professional photography session, you may be wondering what to expect for your own engagement photos.

Millennium Park and Cloud Gate, Union Station’s Great Hall, Lincoln Park and the Nature Boardwalk, North Avenue Beach, the Riverwalk, the Adler Planetarium skyline view, we’ve photographed hundreds of sessions at every iconic spot in the city, and we handle the practical side for you: the right time of day to beat the crowds at the Bean, Millennium Park’s photography rules, and which locations work as rain or snow backups (Union Station has saved more than one session).

Beyond Downtown: Engagement Photos in the Northwest Suburbs

Not every love story takes place in the Loop. We are based in the northwest suburbs, so we know many beautiful local spots. Some favorites include Fabyan Japanese Garden, Veteran Acres Park, the Chicago Botanic Garden, and Cantigny Park. We also visit forest preserves near Algonquin and West Dundee. Best of all, these places offer beautiful views without the crowds or parking stress.

How to Prepare for Your Session

What to wear. Choose outfits you can move in. Coordinate colors with your partner, but do not match exactly. Also, avoid large logos. Bring one dressy outfit and one casual outfit. We will give you time to change.

Props that work. Sparklers, colored smoke, champagne, a save-the-date sign, your dog, an instrument you play. Props turn portraits into storytelling.

Relax! That’s our job. Think of this session as a practice run. You’ll learn how we work. By your wedding day, you’ll feel comfortable in front of the camera.

How much does an engagement session cost in Chicago?

Do we need a permit for engagement photos in Chicago?

Most public locations require no permit for small sessions. Millennium Park has rules for professional photos. We handle the details. We also help you choose the best time of day.

When should we book?

Three to six months before you want your photos, especially for save-the-dates. Fall weekends and summer golden-hour slots fill first.

What if it rains or snows?

We shoot year-round. Union Station, the Chicago Cultural Center, and covered architecture around the Loop give us beautiful indoor options  and some of our favorite sessions happened in the snow.
