How to Handle a Camera-Shy Groom at Your Wedding

Your wedding photos will be a stunning display of your wedding festivities, cherished moments, gorgeous bridal attire, and of course, you and your partner! However, having your groom shy away from the camera is certainly not what you will want showcased throughout your wedding album. But, you may be at a loss as to how to handle your camera-shy groom. After all, you can’t force him to stand and smile for the camera.

Some people don’t appreciate having a camera focused on them at all. While you are happily taking selfies, and trying to capture charming photos of you and your partner, he is trying to avoid the camera at all costs. This may be charming at times, but for your wedding day, it will not fly.

We believe that wedding albums should prominently feature both the bride and the groom. That’s why we have put together a few tips on how to handle your own camera-shy groom. If you would like to know how to get your groom more comfortable in front of the camera, be sure to continue reading for some great tips:

  • Live in the moment. Your groom is likely dreading the photography aspect of your big day. Posing with loved ones and smiling for photos just doesn’t seem like fun to him. This is where you come in. You can have your partner go with the flow of your wedding by helping them live in the moment. You can keep their attention on you and the festivities during the wedding, and off the camera. After all, truly genuine photos will come from acting natural with one another.

  • Building trust with your photographer. If you partner feels more comfortable with someone they know taking photos of them, it’s important that your groom trusts your photographer. Be sure to take your partner with you when you meet your photographer. This is a great opportunity for them to bond. Also, you can schedule an engagement photoshoot or a save the date photoshoot, so that you and your partner have another opportunity to get to know your photographer, as well as learn what to expect from them for your big day.

  • Don’t force a smile. Smiles are great for wedding photos, but they aren’t everything. If your groom is just not the type to smile all the time, it’s important to reassure him that a smile is not needed for every photo. He doesn’t have to dread posing and smiling the entire wedding day. Instead, let him know that being himself and enjoying the wedding is much better than forcing a smile, and it will actually aid in creating natural grins.

Your groom can feel at ease for your wedding photography with the help of these tips. And, you will have lovely wedding photos that you will be proud to display.
