Welcome to our website and dream come true: H Photography. We are Doru and Claudia Halip, and we are delighted to tell you more about us. We are a photographers couple who offers clients the experience of two artists working together to create artistically-directed and candid images for their most special moments in life.
Our studio was named The Knot Best of Weddings 2019,2018,2017,2016 and Wedding Wire Rated 2012 feature, a program based on recent newlywed reviews. In January of 2013, The H Wedding Photography received the Bride’s Choice Award 2013 and. This designation was based on the positive experiences expressed by past clients on Wedding Wire and The Knot, the world’s largest wedding review site (over one million reviews).

Our Photography Style
can best be described as a specialty in documentary fine art wedding photography—a fusion of fashion, portraiture, and photojournalism. Over the past years, we have used our natural talent and experience to generate gorgeous wedding pictures. The hallmarks of our service philosophy include generous film use for every session, personalized service and a strong sense of worthy investment in photographic excellence.
In 2011, we chose to relocate to Chicago from Europe. The reason? We were astonished by Chicago’s awesome landscape, traditional atmosphere and promise as an ideal city to raise a family in. A 2-week vacation here led us to the magical scene of Chicago’s Millennium Park ice rink in winter, a reminder of our native European weather and culture. We knew we had found our new home in the world. With a strong portfolio of our work culled from all over the world, we arrived in Chicago to start a business, website and new life. Our passion is seeing couples document their love with a wedding album worthy of fine art status and elegant display.
Couples may trust our work and vision due to both our formal and Avante Garde training in traditional portraiture, destination wedding photography and photojournalism. They can trust our care and concern for their most comfortable, creative experience;
Who we are:
We are a happily married couple who met in Romania and worked together as photographers while traveling the world on board cruise ships, so we understand the sacredness of the partnership married couples are about to embark upon. We also value the importance of working well together as a team, a process we have perfected over almost 15 years.
Our unique style developed throughout several years of early amateur and professional photography experiences. Doru’s love for photography blossomed in high school after a friend gave him a camera he couldn’t put down. This led to work as a newspaper photographer for 7 years at a local newspaper in the city and then later in the state. Not many wedding photographers can say they honed their skills of working with excited and merry crowds, lavish events and exciting settings onboard cruise ships. We can.
Our Story
For 5 years, we traveled throughout America and the Caribbean on a cruise ship that provided a foundation for our expertise working with people. We developed an eye and appreciation for people with landscapes when we docked to shoot weddings in Puerto Rico, Cozumel, and the Caribbean. We perfected our skills in portraiture by meeting endless requests to shoot passengers on board exotic cruise ships. We took classes. We worked in all types of weather, turbulence, and crowds. Here is where we learned how to pose people in the most flattering manners, how to integrate color into our pictures and how to discover the right lighting and setting. We could not have asked for better training.
Our Passion
Our passion for photography remained while we were on hiatus from working on board the cruise line. Oh, and we got married. The joyous news of our daughter’s impending arrival, which meant Claudia would not be able to work on the cruise line, led to our life-changing choice to open our own photography studio in Romania. The experience was phenomenal. Our fine art, modern and classic sensibilities grew out of our work on weddings in Spain, France, and London. Yet our experiences in America, especially our memories of Chicago and Detroit, lodged in our hearts and minds as the greatest opportunity to make a mark in wedding photography. When it was time to choose between life in America and a return to traveling as photographers on board a cruise ship, we decided to bring our experiences and talents to America for good.
Claudia’s background is in fashion designer until she met Doru and fell in love with him and with Photography. We both have taken photography classes with the New York Institute of Photography. Doru’s college thesis examined the implications of photography in the political sphere. We worked with David Beckstead workshop in Slovenia and Monte Zucker in Mexico and participate at Jerry Ghionis and Scott Kelby workshops in Chicago. Later one we attended Yervant and Sue Bruce seminars in Chicago.
